Tips for Your Oktoberfest Adventure

  • Opening weekend (September 19-20, 2026): traditional keg tapping and big crowds

  • Weekdays (Mon-Thu): fewer guests, more relaxed atmosphere

  • Second weekend (September 26-27, 2026): "Italian weekend" - lively atmosphere, very busy

  • Final weekend (October 3-4, 2026): many farewell parties, high attendance

  • Family days (Tuesdays): reduced prices and a relaxed Wiesn visit for families

Tip: Check the Wiesn Barometer for real-time crowd forecasts and avoid the lines!

  • From Flemings Hotel München‑Schwabing: about 15 minutes by U‑Bahn (U3/U6)
  • Book well ahead! Most tables in the large tents are reserved months in advance. Check the individual tent websites.

  • Spontaneous spots: arrive early (before 2 p.m.) for a better chance of finding a seat — especially on weekdays.

  • Outdoor beer gardens: Many tents have outdoor areas that often don't require reservations.

Good to know: Beer gardens at the Oktoberfest tend to be crowded and noisy. Alternatively, enjoy regional treats and freshly tapped beer at our Flemings Hotel beer garden in Schwabing - perfect for getting in the mood or unwinding away from the hustle and bustle.

  • Try the smaller tents: while the big tents are usually overcrowded, the cozy traditional tents often offer more space.

  • VIP experiences and packages: Some tents offer packages with guaranteed seats, drinks and food - ideal for groups or corporate guests.

Fritz - Our Wiesn Insider

Fritz has been living in Munich for six years and has long since fallen in love with the city and its traditions. The Wiesn is the highlight of his year: as a true Oktoberfest fan, he knows the best festival tents, the tastiest Bavarian specialties and the insider tips that make it unforgettable.

For over a year, he has been part of the Flemings family and the HR team. Whether it’s advice on the perfect outfit, the best beer tent vibes or the small yet special details that make the festival unique – Fritz is always happy to share his knowledge with everyone who loves Oktoberfest as much as he does.

Fritz' Top 5 Insider Tips

My personal favorites are Bräurosl or Schützenlisl at the Oide Wiesn – this is where you’ll find true Wiesn flair at its most authentic. If you prefer something a little more refined, the Marstall Festzelt is a must – a real gem with a special atmosphere.

Without a reservation, you can often find a seat before 4 p.m. on weekdays - get there early or try the side entrances and Wiesn beer gardens. Smaller tents fill up more slowly, but are just as festive.

If the crowds get too intense, the Augustiner Keller beer garden or the Biergarten at Wirtshaus am Bavariapark are great alternatives. For something more traditional, try the Oide Wiesn - quieter, cozy and perfect for families.

Insider rides: Feldl's Teufelsrad (Devil's Wheel) and the Toboggan are legendary classics - watching is just as much fun as participating! And for an adrenaline rush, I love a spin on the Top-Spin.

Alongside classics like roast pork with dumplings and cabbage salad or grilled Steckerlfisch (fish grilled on a stick), there’s now a wide and delicious selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. As a vegetarian, I especially enjoy Kässpatzen. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, don’t miss a Dampfnudel with vanilla sauce or the Kaiserschmarrn at the Café Kaiserschmarrn tent by Rischart.

For beautiful and affordable Dirndls and Lederhosen, I recommend Daller Tracht and Angermaier. Of course, you can also rent traditional outfits if you prefer. My absolute no-gos are plastic Dirndls or costumes.

The Oide Wiesn is a nostalgic area at Munich’s Oktoberfest, offering a cozy atmosphere, historic attractions, festival tents with brass music, and traditional rides. In the Volkssängerzelt Schützenlisl, songbooks are placed on the tables so everyone can join in – the feeling when everybody in the tent sings together is truly goosebump-worthy. The Museum Tent also provides a fascinating look at the history and development of Oktoberfest.
