Welcome to the Main Metropolis!

For 700,000 people, Frankfurt is far more than the dynamic financial and trade show center with the most impressive skyline in Germany and the future seat of the European Central Bank.

Tourist attractions & museums provide cultural variety

Not far from the skyscrapers, you can find cozy Ebbelwoi pubs and right in the center of the inner city business district, with the well known shopping boulevard "Zeil", a number of tourist attractions are strung together like pearls on a necklace. Frankfurt is not only proud of its most famous son, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Not far from the Römer, the city center is home to the Kaiserdom and the Paulskirche, the cradle of Germany's democracy. Along a 2.2 km stretch of the museum riverfront, 24 museums beckon cultural enthusiasts to exhibit highlights from around the world. The Frankfurt Schirn, the Städel Museum, Museum for Modern Art and the Frankfurt Opera are permanently established in the international art and cultural scene.

Tradition & hard cider culture in a multi-cultural metropolis

But Frankfurt is also a multi-cultural beehive, since the pocket-sized metropolis is colorful and diverse. 180 nations live together here peacefully. People enjoy togetherness while following the latest trends, without the stress of the mega-cities. A busy night life does not come at the expense of inviting coziness at, and along the Main, occasionally with a rich Ebbelwoi (hard cider) and Frankfurt's unique Green Sauce!

As one of the world's oldest trade show cities, Frankfurt is of course also host to a wide range of international industrial trade shows, such as the book fair or Ambiente. About 51 trade shows and exhibitions are conducted annually on the world's third largest trade show grounds.

But why not go on your own personal exploration of the Main metropolis? We are more than happy to give you a few insider tips that you will not find in any travel guide.

    27.03. - 19.04.2015 Frankfurt Dippemess:

Dippemess is Frankfurt's largest folk festival. Historically a stonewear (hessian = Dippe) market, it is now primarily a venue for fun-seekers, with a wide range of fairground rides. The fairground rides beckon with half-off prices on family day. And the colorful fireworks on the final day of the Dippemess always draws a large crowd.

    29.05. - 30.05.2015 Bergerstraße Festival:

Bergerstraße is among the most popular shopping and restaurant boulevards in Frankfurt. It is lined by small boutiques, shops with beautiful accessories, and a wide range of pubs and cafés. Every year, it is the venue for the "Untere Bergenstraße Festival". A festival with multi-cultural character. Live music on several stages, food stands with delicatessen from a host of national cuisines make this street festival a popular meeting point for young and old.

    24.06. - 03.07.2015 Opera Plaza Festival:

"See and be seen" should be the unofficial motto of the Opera Plaza Festival. This where people meet for musical entertainment and a glass of wine, while enjoying the atmosphere surrounding the magnificent Old Opera.

    25.07.2015 Schweizer Straße Festival:

Every year, Schweizer Straße is transformed into a festival boulevard for a day. And every year, the festival is conducted under a new national motto that is particularly reflected in the food offered at the restaurant stands, but also in the cultural side program.

    31.07. - 03.08.2015 Main Festival:

Much of daily life in Frankfurt takes place along the Main. This is where most of the museums are located (along the museum riverfront). The riverfront promenade is home to fleamarkets, and many people come here during the summer for picnics and to go sunbathing. Little wonder then that the Main has been given its own festival.

    02.08.2015 City Triathlon:

A 1.5k swim in the nearby Langener Waldsee, a 40k bike ride in and around Frankfurt, and a 10k run through the inner city. The City Triathlon has many sports enthusiasts, specifically because of the run through the impressive inner city skyline.

    07.-16.08.2015 Apple Cider Festival:

Frankfurt and its "Ebblewoi" go hand-in-hand The popular beverage has now been given a monument with its own festival – fully dedicated to the delightful drink.

    28. - 30.08.2015 Museum Riverfront Festival:

The next festival begins only a few weeks following the Main festival. The Museum Festival stretches along both riverfronts.  Live musical entertainment, a spectacular dragonboat race and a wide variety of food and craft stands draw some of the attention away from the fact that the surrounding museums are actually the occasion for the festivities. By purchasing an affordably priced Museum Riverfront button, visitors have free entry to all participating museums on the 3 festival days. Large fireworks along the Main riverfront are the crowning conclusion.

    11. - 21.09.2015 Frankfurt Dippemess:

Dippemess is Frankfurt's largest folk festival. Historically a stonewear (hessian = Dippe) market, it is now primarily a venue for fun-seekers, with a wide range of fairground rides. The fairground rides beckon with half-off prices on family day. And the colorful fireworks on the final day of the Dippemess always draws a large crowd.

    25.10.2015 BMW Frankfurt Marathon:

This will be the 34th running of the Frankfurt City Marathon. Thousands of runners are participating in this high-profile athletic event. A particular highlight for the runners: crossing the finish line over the red carpet.

    25.11. - 22.12.2015 Frankfurt Christmas Market:

The annual Christmas market spreads out in front of the picturesque scenery of the Römer and the surrounding half-timbered houses. The towering Christmas tree in front of the steps of the Römer is visible from afar thanks to hundreds of brightly shining lights. Seasonal delicatessen such as roasted almonds, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine beckon in addition to stands with Christmas tree decorations. Advent concerts and the buglers from the belltower of the Nikolai church round out the Christmas market musically. Children can take a ride in the chair-o-plane, which is located directly among the booths at the Römer hill.
